Like most people, I find it easier to immerse myself in books that are relatable so when I had to pick a book from Lane’s selection, I was immediately drawn to the title 'Treasuring Christ when your hands are full. Gospel Meditations for Busy Moms.' It literally screamed “READ ME”!!!
Like most moms, our hands are always full of endless family-centred to do lists. I wanted to find out how to treasure Christ despite this busyness and this book did not disappoint.
Gloria is a wife to Pastor Dave Furman and a mother of 4 kids whose cup overflowth with demands of everyday life that she primarily shoulders due to her husband’s physical disability. She shares her journey and is refreshingly honest about her life which made it very easy to connect to her writing.
Gloria shares glimpses of her world with no filters and is very open about many moment of frustrations that moms will recognise and chuckle over. Rather than give readers a “How-to Toolkit” which can be alienating, when done in a “preachy way”, she shares many nuggets of Christian wisdom of which three messages stood out for me:
Although a short and seemly quick read, this little book packs quite a punch and you would want to reflect and digest the chapters slowly and intentionally. Its “superpower” definitely lies in its honesty and ability to extend a virtual hand to fellow mums offering spiritual encouragement on the journey of motherhood with Christ firmly placed at the centre.
