For many years I have found it difficult to find good Christian books for older children. There have been many wonderfully illustrated and Biblically faithful books for little ones but not for 7-10 year olds. I came across this newly published lovely book for this age group recently. It is best used with your child, perhaps as an evening devotional or a special Sunday book.
A couple of weeks ago I reviewed Alec Motyer’s book “A Psalm A Day” and this is a children’s version. There are a selection of 32 Psalms chosen with a double page for each. There is a beautiful illustration on each page to help your child to reflect on the psalm along with the verses, a short devotional explanation and a short prayer. As the psalm is Alec Motyer’s translation from the Hebrew it takes careful reading to see what the psalmist is saying and is a good reason for keeping it as a ‘parent and child’ together book. I am looking forward to sharing it with my grandchildren!
In this digital age when it is often hard to inspire children to pick up a book, maybe this book might be one that they come to love as they read it and enjoy it. As you read it with your children you will meet the Saviour in each psalm and our prayer for all our children and grandchildren is surely that they will come to know and love the Lord Jesus for themselves and serve him all their days. By the way, you would enjoy this book even if you don’t have children, grandchildren, godchildren, nieces or nephews to share it with!!
