I have read quite a few Christian books in recent years. Books on prayer, evangelism, commentaries on current culture topics, and even braved some on Calvinism and other theological matters that tested understanding of the Bible - and my brain power. However, this book has probably had the biggest impact on me so far. It’s by far the best Christian page-turner I’ve read.
From reading about Stephen’s extremely meagre beginnings in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, to his coming to faith and how it grows and develops as God leads him onwards and upwards through life, this book is page after page of inspiration and encouragement. Stephen’s unwavering faith in the risen Lord Jesus Christ and, in turn, how the Lord not only provides for but exceeds all of Stephen’s expectations is nothing short of amazing. How God takes this totally uneducated, homeless gang member on to being a leader in an international evangelistic organisation is just awesome.
Stephen’s story has literally changed how I pray. I no longer pray that God gives me a job so I can provide for my family; I now simply pray for His provision for us.
If you want a fast-paced, humbling yet challenging book about what true faith can achieve, this is it.
