When I initially gazed at this title, I immediately thought ‘oh no, this is just some book giving me a few ideas and tips on expressing myself, finding fulfillment and being happy’. However, when I dug a little deeper in the first 2 chapters, I started to see a very key Christian message jumping out of the page at me. A message that can uphold you and give you hope when feeling under pressure from our modern culture. That is ‘we are made in the image of God and our identity is in Christ’.
Finding ourselves
The writer discusses how modern society rejects the idea of a creator and looks within to find meaning. For example, we as individuals are encouraged to rely on our own strengths, follow our own desires and think of ourselves before others. However, the Bible teaches us to acknowledge our faults, sins and failures so we can rejoice in Christ’s strength and to deny ourselves so we can put Jesus in control.
